Welcome to the Friends of the Nordic Watercolour Museum
The Nordic Watercolour Museum is situated in Skärhamn on the island Tjörn, about 70 km north of Gothenburg. The museum was inaugurated in 2000. The architects were Niels Bruun and Henrik Corfitsen from Denmark. The idea of founding a Nordic watercolour museum emanates from The Nordic Watercolour Society, which was formed in 1989. Twenty communities were interested of the idea, and Tjörn was selected from them.
Now the Nordic Watercolour Museum is one of the most popular attractions in Tjörn. The number of visitors is in the range of 100-200 000 per year, and the summer exhibitions especially are visited by busloads of visitors from everywhere in Sweden. There are also many visitors from abroad. The museum is active in research and education, and it has developed cooperation with schools and companies in the neighbourhood.
The Friends of the Nordic Watercolour Museum is a society, which was formed already in 1995, and it played an important role during the planning stages. Since then the Friends support the activities of the museum in many ways. Every year a donation is given to the museum, e.g. For acquisition of new pieces of art.

Our activitiesMembers of the society are always invited to the opening of a new exhibition.
Members have unlimited free entrance to the exhibitions. Members receive the four page paper Akvarellspegeln (Watercolour News) which is published four times yearly in Swedish. The Museum and the Friends arrange lectures, concerts and other activities together. The Friends arrange a trip with art flavour every year. Earlier trips have gone to Berlin, Åland, China, different parts of Sweden and Denmark. Members participate as volunteers in the exhibitions. The annual meeting of the Friends is held in March. On this occasion pieces of art (mostly watercolour works of Nordic origin) have been bought for the member lottery. |
